Buckingham Preparatory School is a selective, independent school for boys aged 3 – 11 years.
Our school is a highly academic, achieving school. We educate our boys to the standard required for placements in all of the prestigious local independent and state senior and grammar schools. We are not connected or tied to any one senior school and as such we plan our curriculum and attainment levels to ensure placements are achieved at the age of 11. We pride ourselves on consistently achieving at least one first choice school offer for every Year 6 boy as they progress through to senior schools.
But, important as academic achievement is, our school is also fully committed to whole child education and aims to ensure each boy leaves us with the social and moral life skills required to make them thoughtful and valued members of the wider community.
We have specialist Music, Art, Drama, French and PE teachers who educate our boys not only in the skills within these areas, but also the attitudes and ethos behind them. We believe teamwork, sportsmanship and commitment are every bit as important as winning and that enjoyment of the arts is just as important as production.
It is our policy to see every child is educated in a way best suited to that individual. We do not have any criteria for a typical pupil to whom we would offer a place. Our school has a pastoral care system second to none. We have a strict class size maximum of 18 pupils per class to ensure every child will receive the individual attention and focus they need to succeed. We tailor our curriculum to best suit each child’s personality and needs.
Our emphasis on the individual extends to all aspects of our school life and community. We have a breadth of experience that respects and encourages the wide range of religious beliefs and dietary variations within the school and enable them to exist both in their own right, and encompassed within the broader school community. School meals are prepared freshly every day on the premises enabling us to deliver tasty and wholesome lunches, catering for any specific dietary needs as required. Our school meals are provided without additional charge.
We believe that school life is not simply 8.30am to 4.00pm, but an all-encompassing part of a child’s life. We run a before school breakfast club and after school fun clubs, together with a homework club, sports clubs and music clubs. Many of our clubs are free of additional charge.
We run a residential trip each year for every child in Prep, where fun, education, teamwork and friendship are top of the agenda. These have included a night at the Science Museum and a week’s residential trip for our Year 6 boys to Plas Menai watersports centre in North Wales.
We have an active Parent Teacher Association where any parents who wish to can involve themselves in the wider aspects of the school. We also run social events for parents and children throughout the year.
Our over-riding policy is one of listening and sharing. Parents are encouraged to meet with the Headteacher whenever they wish, to ensure a full and open dialogue. The Headteacher is an active member of the school as well as its leader and will be found greeting the boys at the school gate every morning, come rain or shine. We treat our school community as a large, well-managed, well-educated, respectful and encouraging family.
More detailed information about key aspects of our school are dealt with on their own separate pages within this website. You can also find recent news updates on what we have been doing throughout the school year.
